Blake Kersey

Blake has served as the Pastor at First Baptist since July 2014. Blake has a passion for teaching God’s Word and helping people apply it to their lives. His desire is to lead by example as FBC strives to reach people far from God and make disciples of all people. His life verse is, “Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)

He previously served in children’s ministry at Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama and First Baptist Church in Trussville, Alabama. Before coming to Decatur, Blake served as the Associate Pastor to Families at FBC Trussville.

Blake was born and raised in Paducah, Kentucky…and his blood still runs blue for his Kentucky Wildcats! He moved to Alabama to attend Samford University and then Beeson Divinity School. He graduated with his Doctorate of Ministry in May 2013 from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

While Blake loves serving as a pastor, he often reminds the congregation, that his higher calling is to be the best husband to Lindsey and father to Noah and Anna Reese that he can be. At this stage in his life, he wants to spend most of his free time with his family.

Roger Jenkins

Associate Pastor Senior Adults/Pastoral Care

Roger has served as the Associate Pastor of Senior Adults and Pastoral Care at First Baptist since July 2006. Roger loves the senior adults in our church and community, and much of his time is spent ministering to our church members who are homebound, in the hospital or recovering in local health rehab facilities. He also oversees First Baptist’s JOY Ministry for those in our church who are 55 and older. Roger’s life verse is, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Roger graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth in 1982. He is married to Cleta and they have two adult daughters. They love being grandparents to their two granddaughters. When Roger is not caring for our senior adults, he enjoys being a handyman doing home remodeling projects and traveling.

Stephen Mishalanie

Recreation Director

Stephen began serving at First Baptist July 2009 as Recreation Director. He graduated from the University of North Alabama and has been married to Lisa for 22 years. Currently, they have three very busy teenagers, Jacob, Joshua and Hanna. When Stephen isn’t overseeing the ROC (Recreational Outreach Center/Gym), he is enjoying sporting events with his family or tinkering with computers. Stephen’s favorite scripture is Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Caleb Farrow

Student Pastor

Caleb was called to First Baptist March 15, 2015 as Student Pastor. Previously, he served 3 years at First Baptist Montgomery as Associate Student Pastor. Caleb graduated from Auburn University in 2011 with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies, and he is currently in his last semester at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Caleb is passionate about making disciples of the next generation and equipping them with the tools needed to reach others for Christ. His favorite Bible passage is Philippians 4:4-7 “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Caleb and Sarah have been married for 4 years and are the proud parents of Lady, the family dog! When there is a spare minute, Caleb enjoys hunting, fishing, working out and watching movies with Sarah.

Keith Frost

Director of Operations

Keith Frost came to First Baptist in 2015 as Director of Operations after spending 30 years in the defense industry. Keith has been a member of FBC for over 23 years, so he is no stranger! He and his wife, Jana, a lifelong member of FBC, have two adult children, Emily (Jeff) and John. When Keith is not working at the church, he can be found at the beach, enjoying baseball or watching Alabama football - his alma mater. Keith’s favorite Bible verse is Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

Jarrod Goodhue

Children's Minister

Jarrod first began work in Children’s Ministry in 2014 and recently started serving with FBC in November 2016. After graduating from Liberty University Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry: Worship, he has found a true calling in discipling children and serving their families. He loves to worship God in many ways and brings that enthusiasm to teaching kids how to worship in all areas of their lives. Most of all, Jarrod loves seeing children own their faith in Jesus with guidance from their families. Jarrod and his wife Nicole enjoy many adventures together. They like to travel to spend time camping, relaxing on the beach, or competing in disc golf tournaments. Jarrod finds encouragement from John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Renee Stephenson

Preschool Director

Renee Stephenson began serving as the Interim Preschool & Children’s Director in January 2016. Renee has been a member of FBC for 39 years. She and her husband, Greg, have two daughters who are freshman at Auburn. Renee has been very active at FBC serving in preschool and children’s Sunday School, GAs, VBS, mission trips and extended care. She has a heart for seeing children come to know Jesus as their personal Savior and nurturing that relationship. When Renee is not spending time with family, you can find her running, reading, and taking care of all their “pets.” Her favorite verse is Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you.”
