Snapshot of FBC
Decatur…
FBC Decatur is a
traditional yet fresh, family-focused Southern Baptist Church
located in historic Decatur, Alabama. FBC is known for building
strong Christ-centered relationships and offering a wide variety
of classes and programs to enhance the worship experience.
What are the
services like?
We currently have
two Sunday morning services, one at 8:30 and one at 11:00. In
between, is our 9:45 Sunday School program which affords the
flexibility to come early or late for worship. So if you are a
morning person or not, we have you covered!
Our services could
be described as “welcoming”. If you manage to come and leave
without being greeted by the First family, we haven’t done our
job. We want you to feel comfortable and at ease as you listen
to the message.
Our services have
something for everyone. The FBC Worship Choir leads a variety of
worship in song, ranging from classics to popular praise
choruses. This rich tapestry of selections allows us to reach
people from all musical tastes. We often say, if you don’t like
the current song, don’t worry, we will be singing something
completely different soon!
What do I wear?
Wear anything
appropriate that makes you comfortable. It really is more about
your worship experience than what you wear. Typical Sunday
attire ranges from jeans to full suits – whatever you feel best
wearing is fine.
I feel awkward in new
places…how bad will it be?
Hopefully, not bad
at all! If you look around the website, you will be able to
familiarize yourself with the campus and programs that FBC
offers. That will make you feel more comfortable when you visit.
We also have greeters at the doors (they wear red ribbons so you
can tell who they are). The greeters will be able to answer any
questions, show the way to children’s church, help you find a
seat, etc.
How do I join First
Baptist Church?
God desires that
each one of us have a personal relationship with Jesus and that
we are a part of a local church. I Corinthians 12:18 teaches us
that God adds to the body (the church) just as he sees fit. How
do you become a part of the body of Christ?
-
Personal
Relationship with Jesus: Every person must make a personal
decision in his/her life whether to follow Christ or not. When
you decide to become a Christian, you will need to make that
public and follow Christ in baptism.
-
Transfer of
Letter: If you desire membership in our church and are
presently a part of another Baptist church, you can indicate
your desire to change your membership.
-
Statement of
Faith: If you have made a decision to follow Christ and have
followed him in baptism by immersion, you may come by statement
of faith on your previous commitment.
-
Baptism from
Another Denomination: If you are like many who are a
Christian but have been in another denomination and have not
been baptized by immersion, you may come for baptism by
immersion into First Baptist.
Your decision can be
made public by coming forward at the conclusion of our services and
we will be glad to assist you. For those who have a difficult time
with large crowds, we will certainly make accommodations so that you
may fulfill God’s teaching in a way that will be pleasing to Him.
Please don’t hesitate to call one of the ministers if you have any
questions. We are here to help!
