An interview with
Garth Lindsay,
Minister of Recreation
& Family Life
What is your most vivid
memory as child?
Going squirrel
hunting with my dad. I remember learning how to sit still and
learning how to be patient.
What is your favorite
memory or story regarding Sonja and the kids?
The whole 9 months
leading up to the birth of our children were special times. Just
watching Sonja prepare and “nest” and talking about what our
lives would be like after the birth.
What is a favorite
tradition?
I love Christmas.
We always get together as a family and spend time together. I
really enjoy having some quality time with the family.
What sports or hobbies
do you enjoy in your spare time?
I have more hobbies
than my time allows! I love to golf, tennis, hunt (duck hunting
is my favorite), fish, watch sports on tv, photography, spending
time with my girls. In other words, I really love to play.
What is something that
would surprise us about you?
I was in a band
that won a talent show in high school. We were called the ‘JuneBugs’.
We were the only group in our category, so we won by default.
What do you love most
about Sonja?
I love most about
Sonja the fact that she lets me be me. She puts up with my
hobbies and gives me free time to play! Plus she is very
thoughtful and is sweet as pie!
How did you come to
know Christ?
I accepted Christ
as a 16 year old at youth camp in Tennessee. I was invited to
camp by some of my school friends and it turned out to be the
most important week of my life! On Thursday night at camp I was
sitting in the back row and I could feel the Holy Spirit tugging
on my heart. I knew that I was a sinner and needed Christ to
come into my heart. It was awesome!
How did you come to be
in ministry.
I had a sense of
God calling me not long after I asked Jesus into my heart at age
16. I am pretty stubborn sometimes and I decided that I would
chart my own path. As I was in college I was not at peace with
what I was studying and I changed my majors a couple of times.
After praying about my calling and talking with some friends, I
decided to surrender to full time ministry. Upon graduating
