Frequently asked Questions

What is the purpose of BeSent Celebration?

The purpose of Be Sent Celebration is to learn how God is using people just like us around the world and to discover how we can find our own place to serve the Lord by sharing the love and gospel of Jesus Christ.

How will this celebration help us as a church?

We hope Be Sent Celebration will serve as a catalyst for showing FBC members how they can personally engage in missions around the world by learning about the work of missionaries, church planters, and pastors.

Years from now, we hope to look back and see some of our own church members serving on the mission field, along with hundreds of church members who have served in short- or long-term roles.

We also hope Be Sent will encourage us to view the world’s lostness as a problem that is first met in prayer and then by going.

When is it held?

Be Sent Celebration will be held Wednesday through Sunday, October 14–18, 2026. We celebrate Be Sent every other year.

Where are these missionaries and church planters serving?

This year, we’ll welcome mission partners from places as close as Huntsville and Selma; from other places in the United States, including Louisiana and Maine; and from around the world, including Belize, South Asia, the Pacific Rim, and Africa.

How long will the missionaries be here, and where are they staying?

Our mission partners will begin arriving on Tuesday, October 13, and will stay in the homes of church members until after worship on Sunday, October 18.

What is my role during Be Sent?

Be present! Don’t miss our opening worship service at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, and our church-wide supper beforehand.

Our other events include:

  • Men & Boys’ Dinner — Thursday night

  • Women & Girls’ Lunch — Friday

  • Friday Night Sunday School Class Dinners — Friday night

Register for these events above or on the clipboards in your Sunday School class.

What can I do for the missionaries and church planters?

Welcome them with open arms! We’ll have the opportunity to talk with our mission partners at their display tables in the ROC before and after our main events on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Then, pray for them. Email and write them, and let them know they have a supporting family here at First Baptist Church.

How do I financially support missions through our church?

At FBC Decatur, we divide giving into two main categories: Tithe (Budget) and Acts 1:8. Both support missions.

  • Tithe (Budget): When you give to the Tithe (Budget) side, you support the International and North American Mission Boards, local and state missions, and mission trips for groups such as our Student Ministry.

  • Acts 1:8: When you give to Acts 1:8, a portion of those funds also supports the International and North American Mission Boards. In addition, Acts 1:8 provides funding for the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, scholarships for FBC members to participate in mission trips, support for our Spanish-speaking ministry, and church planters throughout the state of Alabama.

How can I prepare for Be Sent 2026?

  • Join us for Be Sent: 21 Days of Prayer, beginning Thursday, September 24. Daily prayer requests will be posted online and shared through daily text messages. If you do not already receive occasional prayer texts from FBC, you can join our prayer text list by texting PRAY to (938) 336-9522.

  • Open your calendar and register for our special events on Wednesday evening, Thursday night, and Friday at lunch. And make sure you are part of a Sunday School fellowship on Friday night.
