OUR MISSION

First Kids exists to turn the dial of discipleship so that every kid and their family may be fully equipped for every good work.

Meet Jonathan and Doug

Jonathan Freeman

Minister to Children

I was born and raised in Trussville, AL. From the time I was in seventh grade, I knew that I wanted to be in ministry. Church has always felt like home to me, and I pray that every kid who attends feels a sense of peace and comfort within the walls of FBC Decatur. I am happily married to my wife, Allie, and we have two young boys, Josiah (7) and Wiley (4). I received my Master of Arts in Christian Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Prior to that, I earned an undergraduate degree in Business Management from THE University of Alabama. I began serving in a church plant in San Antonio, TX, was a Preteen Minister in Aledo, TX,  and served a summer at Pine Cove Christian camp. Then, I served with Pastor Blake as a Children's Ministry Associate at FBC Trussville, and I served as Kids Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa for 8 years before coming to FBC Decatur in October of 2021.

age-divided groups each Sunday.

Worship: Kids worship in the sanctuary with the congregation, then they head down to the Underground to hear Bible stories on their level, enjoy exciting worship songs, and have fun with their friends. Kids worship is set up in two groupings: K-2nd and 3rd-5th grade.
